Stantorr
A restored East Lothian historic tower house in a stunning Scottish landscape.
Stone built tower with additional accommodation lodge and cottage. Great hall. Library. vaulted Dining Room. Period features. Located 20 miles from Edinburgh.
Set in its own private estate this stone built historic tower rises majestically from the unspoilt rolling countryside. It’s sympathetic restoration has retained the turrets and crenelations outside, and all the wonderful period features inside, creating a true fairytale feel.
Inside you will find an impressive vaulted dining room, a wonderful great hall with stone floors and magnificent fireplace, a book lined library and a snug and bar area. Spiral staircases lead to 6 beautifully appointed luxurious bedrooms, making this a fabulous space for a shoot and stay, and particularly good for retreats and residential workshops; especially as there is additional accommodation in the lodge and cottage found in the grounds. These two modern additions are beautifully designed and appointed, in total there are up to 10 ensuite bedrooms.
There are far reaching views across the hills from all parts of the tower and cottages, with abundant wildlife, stunning scenery - the tower a natural vantage point for miles around.
Stantorr would be a wonderful place for filming and photoshoots with plenty of grand scale rooms and entertaining spaces that offer versatile and welcoming possibilities.
History and special interest
This Grade A listed 16th century Tower House has been beautifully restored and reopened in 2002 having lain as a ruin after being sacked by Oliver Cromwell in 1650. The castle was originally built in the 1550s and has played host to King James VI during it's short but turbulent history.
