Larhus
A wonderful Northamptonshire gothic school house
A wonderful Northamptonshire gothic school house with amazing period features. Located 10 miles from Banbury.
Larhus is an extensive gothic school which would be just amazing for period films, as well as photoshoots. The exterior is breath-taking with an incredible entrance arch with mullioned leaded light windows and ornate stonework, bell tower and carvings. The brick, stone and half timbered exterior is both rambling and imposing and very impressive.
Inside you have incredible panelled hallways, huge rooms with plasterwork ceilings and ornate stained glass and lead windows. All the period features are here including some huge carved fireplaces, an immense carved wood staircase, large floor to ceiling windows, exposed beams and more. The possibilities for films, events, and photoshoots here are innumerate.
Outdoors there is a wonderful period courtyard at the centre including what would originally have been stables, as well as large lawns and walled areas with topiary. There is plenty of parking.
Larhus is a functioning school and is therefore only available outside term time – please contact us for availability.
History and special interest
The school traces its origins back to 1875 when Revd C.L. Vaughan endeavoured to establish a choir school in St Leonards-on-Sea, Sussex under the headship of Revd J.W. Doran. This venture quickly foundered, and the school was re-founded in 1876 by Revd George William Bryant with a focus on preparing boys for public schools and the armed forces, particularly the Royal Navy.
