Hymele

A large Kent farming estate with acres of wildflowers, lavender fields, hops, orchards and farmhouses

Period features, rolling hills, lavender fields, orchards, hops, traditional farmhouses, barns and outbuildings. Located 8 miles from Sevenoaks and just 17 miles from central London.

Hymele is a dreamy and accessible location with 1200 acres of wonderful farmland, a large threshing barn, and a restored 16th century farmhouse which would suit any rural, agricultural, countryside brand for photoshoots and be an absolute delight for filming with excellent crew facilities on site.

The picturesque 16th century Farmhouse is Grade II* listed with beautifully renovated interiors which still showcase many original features including oak wood beams, working Aga, original fireplaces and textured interior backdrops.

Alongside traditional arable crops, there are extensive floral and wildflower fields, rolling hills, lavender, sunflowers, hop gardens, apple orchards, maize, grasslands... and much more. They also offer hire of agricultural vehicles for films, and there a diverse range of landscape backdrops including shed and barns, water meadows, hay bales, and modern or vintage farm space, and even abandoned and overgrown buildings.

There is a dedicated space for cast and crew with fabulous facilities including power, high speed broadband and space for hair and makeup, wardrobe etc.

There is nearby accommodation that the owners are happy to recommend if required.

History and special interest

Hymele is farmed by the same family since the late 1800s. Though the history of the site here goes back a lot further than that, with the current 16th century farmhouse sitting on the site of an ancient castle. The current generation have a modern, sustainable approach with active conservation  - regular hedge maintenance, woodland management and tree planting taking place each year.

The farm devotes 10% of its area to be managed with wildlife and the environment having priority over food production. They maintain grass field edges (to provide extra habitat for flowers and mammals), pollen and nectar areas (that support bees and insects), summer fallow fields (to favour ground-nesting birds), and a programme of old hedge restoration work– truly something for the 21st century!
