Foxesflot

A magical estate in Devon on the bank of a tidal river with barns, land, orchard, gardens and rare breed animals

Period features, great barn, converted barn accommodation, ancient farmhouse, private woodlands, fields, orchard, and courtyard. Located 7 miles from Tavistock.

Set in 17 acres of gently rolling hills, and commanding stunning views next to the river, Foxesflot is an incredibly versatile property, with fabulous period features. The great barn, courtyard of converted barns and beautiful lands would suit a multitude of brand shoots as well as being a wonderful setting for any retreat, and has enough space for large film crews also if required.

Inside the farmhouse there is a very picturesque ancient doorway leading to the large sitting room with gorgeous stone fireplace and exposed beams. The dining area is large and light and would be a fabulous backdrop for any interior or homeware brands, as would the lovely country kitchen complete with aga. All the bedrooms and bathrooms are elegant and prettily dressed, again with period features and exposed beams throughout.

In the attractively planted quadrangle there is another historic barn converted into lovely accommodation, and a large events barn which would be a fabulous creative space for yoga, art or writing retreats and workshops. This has exposed stone walls and a mezzanine galleried area with soaring beamed roof. There is a bar area inside and an outdoor kitchen. The grounds and gardens are dreamy and peaceful with a pretty pond, streams and grassy walkways around the orchards and paddocks, where you will find a small stone circle and fire pit surrounded by wildflower meadows.

Paths from the paddocks full of rare breed sheep, goats, pigs and geese meander down to the water's edge. Next to the river is a wonderful wood built shelter, again perfect for yoga or workshops. There is a productive vegetable patch, bee hives, rescue hens and antique tractors and a Series III Landrover available.

Foxesflot offers self catering and bed and breakfast accommodation for brand shoot and stays or retreats.

History and special interest

This historic farmstead is recorded in the Doomsday book and is Grade II listed. The entrance hall and living room contain parts originally from Tavistock Abbey (acquired during Henry VIII's dissolution of the monasteries). The farmhouse living room was the original house dating back to 1296.

More recently the estate was an important fruit and daffodil farm in the early 19th century with hundreds of rare almost forgotten daffodils lining the hedgerows in spring. (They were taken up during WWII to make way for food production.)

Foxesflot sits in a designated Area Of Natural Beauty and Site of Special Scientific Interest, as well as being in a World Heritage Site. The farm is currently going through conversion with the Soil Association to be completely organic, they sustainably farm rare breed sheep, goats and heritage apple varieties.
