Cyme
Serene 16th century farmhouse in Suffolk with converted barn, extensive gardens, land and outbuildings
Period features, manicured gardens, private woodlands, fields, renovated barns and outbuildings, swimming pool, and terraces. Located 10 miles from the quintessential seaside town of Southwold.
Sprawled over ten idyllic acres, Cyme weaves historic charm with modern luxury. Step inside this enchanting Elizabethan farmhouse, and you’ll find a spacious living room with a grandly inviting inglenook fireplace.
The elegant dining room and the country-chic kitchen complete with Aga, provide exceptional interiors for your shots. The house retains many quirky and original features, like winding staircases and a tiny secret loo that leads out into the garden, all telling stories that enhance your brand narrative.
Outdoors, there is much versatility and scope: acres of elegant formal and kitchen gardens, a woodland, meadows, ponds, and a paddock with stables. On the patio, you’ll find a Narnia-style stone banquet table and an ancient firepit, creating a magical setting for soirées and midnight feasting. There’s also a vintage Jeep Cherokee on land for shoots.
The swimming pool is covered by a curved glass structure for all-weather use and hemmed in by age-old yew trees. Additional outbuildings, including a timber-framed barn, add rustic charm to your shoot, while the events barn is an intimate space for small gatherings.
Cyme also offers plush, fully renovated accommodations for brand shoot and stays or retreats.
History and special interest
Cyme has been at the heart of hamlet life for centuries. Many of the farmhouse furnishings, such as the grand fireplace, were rescued from a ruined stately home.
Records show that it has always been a working farm. Today, you can still expect to meet a curious goat duo, a delightfully hairy drove of Kune Kune pigs and flock of Burford Browns clucking around the farmyard.
Cyme's history is rich and varied. It was once a cider mill frequented by locals seeking Suffolk’s golden nectar.
In the 20th century, the stables at Cyme were home to a bohemian music publisher. A former owner wrote several pastoral memoirs, penned from the farmhouse eaves, documenting the shifting seasons and the diverse flora and fauna on the farm.
Believed to be situated on ley lines, Cyme exudes a sense of serenity and calm - something the current owner immediately fell in love with as soon as they pulled into the drive.
