Amoran
One of the most beautiful gardens in Wigtownshire, Southwest Scotland
Lochs, woodland walks, rare plants and trees, far reaching views. Lodge and shepherd hut. Located 7 miles from Stranraer.
Amoran is simply a delightful garden, lovingly curated by the current owners. With the warming influence of the Gulf Stream, they grow many tender plants from around the Southern Hemisphere, together with large collections of rare trees and shrubs. A numbered Tree Trail has been collated, along with 17 acres of Moorland Walk with 120+ species of wildflowers, grasses, and ferns. Two small lakes are the focal point, with seats and meandering paths running along enchanting walks with interesting sculptures.
A magical atmosphere has been created with rhododendrons and azaleas, primulas, & camellias, along with extensive water gardens, wetland for the marginal plants, heathers, herbaceous plants, rock gardens along with moorland wildflowers, grasses, and ferns. Wildlife is abundant and includes birds of prey, insects, hedgehogs and more.
Amoran would be a wonderful place for a shoot and stay with its shepherd's hut and 2-bedroom lodge on the edge of the grounds.
History and special interest
Created out of moorlands by the current owners this incredible place has been a labour of love, bought in 1971 and cultivated over four decades from bog, rushes and gorse.
