Ailmer

An ancient manor in Gloucestershire with extensive gardens, re-wilded land and treehouses

Period features, walled gardens, private woodlands, rewilded land, coach house, treehouses. Located 5 miles from Gloucester.

An ancient and enchanting manor set in 250 acres of rewilding land. The house is built of rich warm stone and inside retains both amazing medieval features alongside many later additions making it a truly grand and inviting space. A stained glass lit great hall, the wood panelled drawing room, and the ornate dining room are elegantly furnished with appropriate antiques and would be fabulous for filming. The morning room is a neutral and relaxing sitting room overlooking the gardens. Bedrooms are large and historic with wood panelling, four-poster beds, stone fireplaces and gorgeous furnishings throughout.

Separate from the main house is a unique purpose built space ideal for gatherings, workshops, yoga or crew space. There is also a self contained accommodation building.

Outdoors, the grounds around the house are filled with formal gardens, kitchen gardens and parklands with ancient trees and manicured lawns. Walled gardens provide enchanting areas with beautiful and thoughtful planting alongside greenhouses full of plants and flowers. The estate has managed woodlands, and cultivates much of its own produce, so there is an abundance of fruit and vegetable plots. The wild swimming pond is a magical area and the land teams with wildlife of all sorts and would be great for photography workshops. Aesthetic treehouses overlook the newly rewilded wetlands and woodlands.

Ailmer also offers fantastic accommodation for brand shoot and stays or retreats.

History and special interest

Ailmer is a truly ancient Grade II listed estate with records going back to the 12th century. The house has been a private house in family ownership for centuries, and has been extended and improved over these years, with large periods of building in the late 1800s.
